Luxury on the Golf Estate
Clarens Country House offers Bed and Breakfast or Self Catering accommodation on the Golf Estate, warm in the winter and cool in the summer, this converted and redesigned 100 and some year old sheepshed has old thick sandstone walls insulating you from the troubles and harsh weather of the world, while you enjoy the hospitality of the Free State.
ÂSpace to relax!
Spacious apartments with separate rooms and private sunrooms, breakfast served in your suite and an emphasis on hospitality makes this your home in the mountains.
The Clarens Country House is nestled in a wooded corner of the secure Clarens Golf Estate, where it started out as a sheep shed on the original farm long before the Golf estate came into being. This century-old building with wrap-around mountain views, has been completely remodeled as a luxury self-catering guest house. The sheep and their shearers gave way to a cherry liqueur distillery a decade ago, before this historic building was reclaimed to become the place to stay in one of South Africa’s top tourist destinations. With half-metre thick sandstone walls, The Clarens Country House is a cool retreat in summer and a cosy refuge from Clarens’s invigorating winters.

Best Self Catering Available Clarens is a small town in the Free State filled with history, shops, a brewery and great restaurants as well as walks for all kinds of people. We loved our two night stay there and would have liked to stay longer. Clarens Country House could best be described as upmarket self catering with all the bells and whistles. Its like staying in a luxury hotel but with the option to make your own food. Our apartment had three areas - bedroom, dining / kitchen and patio overlooking their beautiful garden. The house is in a secure golf estate. While their prices are not 'budget' what we got by paying a little extra is more than worth it. Craig, Tony and Peter were wonderful hosts offering a simple but beautifully presented breakfast with eggs made to order. They also had suggestions (and maps) of what to see and where to walk. Peter is a famous artist and on request is happy to show you around his gallery. We have stayed in a number of self catering venues around the world and this one definitely comes out tops!!Paul and Fiona TravelDesignerRelated
