Ithuseng Centre for the Disabled

Ithuseng Centre  for the Disabled was started in the year 2004 under the umbrella of the Combined Churches in Action.   Betty Mokoena who runs the centre in  Kgubetswana  is a firm believer that every individual person deserves attention and care, and was instrumental in starting the centre in order to care for the disabled, abandoned and homeless members of the community.

This centre started out as a day care centre but developed more into a permanent home for some.   The centre  currently takes care of 14 people with various forms of disability.  Out of these 14 people, 5 are homeless as a result of family deaths and are accommodated at the centre. These people range from ages 3 to 35, but  Betty welcomes people of all ages.

Ithuseng not only provides food and housing, but takes a wholistic approach to the people in their care and everyone  at the centre is kept busy with different educational projects and activities such as cutting and pasting, puzzles, drawing and clay shaping.

Ithuseng Disabled Centre has only 3 workers. Betty herself  is one of the 3 workers accompanied by Violet (care giver) and  Ester (the cook).
