AGM: The CTF held its AGM on Tuesday 28th July 2015 at Mont d’Or Hotel. Thank you to Tommy Reinecke for providing the venue and supplying refreshments. The newly elected committee for the next term is:

GETAWAY SHOW: At the Coca Cola Dome in Johannesburg 28 – 30 August 2015. One of the most successful trade shows in the country! A wonderful marketing opportunity for members to attend where not only do you market the town of Clarens but you also have the opportunity to market your own establishment! Please let the committee know if you would like to attend the Expo and be a part of the award winning N3Gateway exhibitor stand. The CTF delegates are also required to wear branded clothing items, i.e. golf T or similar. To this end we appeal to the members for some form of sponsorship through branding on the clothing item – it will more than likely be a Golf T. Please indicate whether you would like to take up this opportunity. Shirts need to be ordered according to sizes, etc., please let us know as soon as possible!

MARKET RESEARCH SURVEY: The last scientific survey was conducted in 2010 by the University of the Free State’s Centre for Development Support and we realise that things have changed quite dramatically since that survey. The CTF would like to reach a point where it has tourism related statistics at its fingertips. A recent discussion meeting was held with some local residents who have experience in the field of market research and it was decided that a full scientific survey needs to be conducted by a professional outfit. The new CTF committee will approach the University of the Free State and request a similar survey be conducted to the one which was done in 2010.

HOWEVER, in the meantime, a simplified ‘snap’ survey could be implemented with very little effort…. Please will you become involved in this exercise. We ask for 10 quick questions to be used in the Snap survey. Questions will be collated and condensed into a simple ‘questionnaire’ which will be distributed through guesthouses, hotels, restaurants, retails sectors. The data collected will be used to start building statistics for Clarens as a whole.

CANSA BETHLEHEM ENDURO TREK: Will be kicking off the Enduro Trek walk from Bethlehem to Clarens on Sunday 25 October, 15 volunteers. The have asked for assistance in the form of sponsored accommodation and Sunday night meal and breakfast on Monday morning. Let us view this as a ‘Social Responsiblitity’ drive and support this very worthy cause. Already Protea Hotel, Mont d’Or and Danie and Tersia Oosthuizen have offered to sponsor some accommodation and Daleen Broekman has offered her bakkie as a support vehicle. They will reciprocate with some form of entertainment. The idea is that the Clarens community comes out to welcome the walkers, then enjoy a picnic with them while listening to some live entertainment. Venue for picnic has not been secured yet.

TOURISM INCENTIVES WORKSHOP: The National Tourism Department is bringing a workshop to Clarens on Wednesday 5 August 2015, venue to be confirmed but will most likely be Golden Gate. We are expecting more details and information from their offices. Please be on the lookout and make time available to attend! Apologies for late notice, only came to the attention of the CTF yesterday.
