SAPS Station Commander to Meet Clarens Residents

The Sector Police Forum is pleased to announce that the new SAPS Station Commander in Clarens, Lt Monica Botha, is planning to meet and address the residents of Upper Clarens.  The date is Tuesday 9 June, at 16h00, at the NG Church Hall.  Now that she has settled in, Lt Botha is keen to meet the residents of Clarens and get to know those she serves.  She will explain her role, functions and philosophy and those of the SA Police Service.  She will be happy to take questions and address any issues that residents may have.  You are encouraged to attend and bring along your friends and neighbours to welcome her to her new posting.   If you have concerns about safety, security or general issues in the village, this is your chance to share them with Lt Botha and your fellow citizens.

See you there!

Clarens Village Nature Reserve

Greetings to all our Village plant enthusiasts. This week we’ll be looking at something a little different, a unique species of Bracket.
Pycnoporus sanguineus is not your typical plant – in fact, this bracket mushroom actually belongs to an entirely different kingdom – one that many either love or hate and is neither plant nor animal, but lies somewhere in between (scientists observe that mushrooms are more closely related to insects than plants – freaky right?)  Yes, for those of you “in-the-know”, P. sanguineus is in fact part of the Fungi kingdom.   Read more

June 16th:  Youth Day

We live in thought provoking times.   June 16th was a momentous day – and those of you who haven’t read Don Emby’s book Soweto Burning will be able to meet him on Saturday at the Bibliophile.   He was there, and he can tell you all about it…..

It is of course a day when we should be celebrating our youth, and it is therefore particularly sad to learn of the dire situation at the Charlotte Theron Kinderhuis/Orphanage in Bethlehem.   (Read the following article.)

Children in Need – You can Help

The Charlotte Theron Kinderhuis / Charlotte Theron Orphanage in Bethlehem has not received their Government grant for the last two months. They are in a dire situation unable to feed and care for the children,  and are  appealing for assistance.

They house 120 orphans and children whose parent can no longer care for them. The children range from tiny babies to 16 year olds, from all the race groups in SA.

The appeal is for donations of either money or necessities such as bread, toiletries, toilet paper, etc. Farmers have donated meat, potatoes and maize.   If you have goods you would like to donate, they can collate a collection out of Clarens.
If you want more information you can call Margaret on 058 307 3708.

If you want to make a cash contribution, the banking details are C Theron Kinderhuis, ABSA 0770230101, branch code 632005.

News from the CTF

The CTF are extremely proud of what it has achieved over the last 4 years and looks forward to continuing to market this beautiful village on all platforms available to it.
There are some exciting developments and, in association with the CVC, CRA, GCCC and SPF have embraced the ‘Unity is Strength’ motto, to work together for the success and prosperity of the entire village!
A marketing strategy plan is also under development with the assistance of one of our local residents who has vast experience in the corporate marketing field.
It is evident that the most effective marketing tools at present are via the social media platforms, i.e. facebook, twitter, websites, etc. To this end, the CTF will be inviting Mr Rich Simmonds for a ‘refresher’/start-up Twitter training workshop – you will be informed as soon as a date has been confirmed. Twitter users are encouraged to keep tweeting and re-tweeting to create a twitter buzz about Clarens.
